Nutalla had always dreamed of achieving success at work, and after countless hours of perfecting the art of answering emails and attending meetings about meetings, he was finally there. His boss, Pope, called him into his office with that look on his face—the one that could only mean one thing: “You’re getting promoted.” Squigi sat down, eagerly awaiting the recognition he so obviously deserved.
“Nutalla,”
Pope began, “you’ve really been stepping up lately. You’ve mastered the art of looking busy, and your ability to forward emails without reading them is nothing short of impressive.”
Nutalla beamed. “Thank you, Pope I really do try to give 110%—even when I’m just using AI for the answers during our conference calls.”
“Exactly!” Pope nodded enthusiastically. “Your multitasking is unparalleled. And, I must say, your ability to use buzzwords like ‘synergy’ and ‘pivot’ without ever actually knowing what they mean is a gift.”
Nutallah couldn’t help but grin. He had no idea what synergy was, but he knew how to sound confident when he said it.
“That’s why,” Pope continued, “we’ve decided to make you our new ‘Senior Strategist for Operational Innovation.’”
Nutalla’s heart swelled with pride. “Wow, that’s incredible! What exactly will that involve?”
“Well,” Pope said, tapping away at his laptop, “you’ll oversee… um, well, we’re still figuring that part out. But your role will involve a lot of important-sounding meetings and PowerPoint presentations. Plus, you get an extra three minutes for lunch!”
Nutalla almost cried with joy. Finally, all his hard work—pretending to understand her job—was paying off. Who needed actual skills when you could master the art of looking like you were working?
