At the office, there was CompLady, the self-proclaimed “Queen of the Cubicles,” a woman who had perfected the art of gossip and sharp stares. She’d been there long enough to know every secret, every side-eye, and every whispered rumor. Her latest target? Sasha, the new, younger, and undeniably confident Alpha Female of the office.
Maudine had it all: the high heels that clicked in perfect rhythm, the killer smile, and the kind of energy that made you believe she could close a deal before your coffee even cooled. CompLady had the kind of energy that could deflate a balloon from three cubicles away.
CompLady sipped her coffee, trying not to laugh. “Oh, I know. It’s like she thinks she’s the alpha of the office or something. How cute.”
Pita smirked. “Exactly. ‘Alpha,’ right? I mean, did she even earn that title? I’ve been here since dial-up internet, CompLady. I could teach her a thing or two about being fierce.”
Pita raised an eyebrow. “You? Teach her?”
“Well, of course. I’m practically the OG office lioness. I mean, I could make her a calendar of tips: ‘How to Dominate the Office Without Making the Coffee Machine Your Best Friend.’”
Pita snorted, almost choking on her coffee. “You know, I’m pretty sure Maudine doesn’t need lessons on how to be in charge. She has a natural presence.”
CompLady snickered, and Pita, despite herself, smiled too. Maybe she couldn’t out-alpha Maudine. But she’d certainly find a way to outlast her — one gossip session at a time.
