It was a regular Monday evening at the office, and everyone was buzzing around like usual. The hum of keyboards clacking, the sound of printers whirring, and the low murmur of gossip filled the air. But there was one person who stood out more than the others—CompLady, the self-proclaimed “office cougar.”
CompLady had been with the company for over 15 years. She was in her mid-40s, but if you asked her, she was a “spicy 30-something.” Her wardrobe was something out of a late-night infomercial—always tight, always bright, always a little too much. But, hey, she was confident, and that’s what mattered, right?
A meeting was arranged, and ComplLady sat down, confidently adjusting her glasses and leaning slightly forward as if she were about to impart some great secret of the universe. HR, in the most professional manner they could muster, began addressing the complaints.
“CompLady, we’ve received several reports from employees that they feel… uncomfortable with your behavior in the office,” HR began. “You’ve been, um, overly rude with your employees.”
CompLady blinked, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. “Oh, those kids? They can’t handle a little adult attention? I’m just trying to keep the energy in the office, you know? It’s important to not have fun at work!”
HR took a deep breath. “CompLady, it’s not just the wording; it’s the constant boundary pushing. People are starting to complain that they don’t know how to set boundaries with you, and it’s affecting their work environment.”
CompLady blinked dramatically. “Oh! So now we’re all HR experts, huh? Fine, I’ll tone it down—just a little—but I won’t stop being fabulous.”
But CompLady wasn’t one to be silenced for long. The next week, she found a new way to be “charming” without stepping over any boundaries.
HR sighed. “CompLady, we’ve had enough.”
CompLady, raising an eyebrow, asked, “Okay, but what if I just start calling everyone ‘darling’ like I’m in some classic romantic comedy? You know, that seems like a good compromise.”
HR couldn’t help but laugh. Despite her inability to stop being the “office cougar,” they eventually decided it was easier to issue a formal memo. The memo would encourage professional decorum in the office, making it clear .
In the end, CompLady decided to be a little less obvious. But she still wore the title “Office Cougar” proudly—after all, the workplace was just another jungle, and she was just doing what any successful cougar would do: howling with style.
